Oftentimes what someone may truly need is the opportunity to tell their story and to share the experience expressed in those words. This isn’t specifically counselling though the counselling skills are essential; instead it is more a need to be heard, to be understood, and for someone else to hold what has been lived through.
Perhaps modern life has taken this opportunity away from us despite the belief that we are all more connected than ever before. Oversharing online may be leaving us feeling more alone. There may be no need to uncover or discuss other areas of life instead wishing to remain focused on the one experience - a talking therapy in its true sense.
